Firstly this hotel does not have a lift for wheelchairs or buggies BUT it does state this on the website. On arrival the staff were friendly but we were required to pay even before seeing our room which is something I am not used to. On getting to our room there was an overpowering smell of gloss paint due to one of the rooms in our corridor being re-decorated. Our room was a good size but very dated and had not been decorated in some time. There was a stale/musty smell in our room also (when you weren't smelling the paint fumes). WE were situated above the kitchen so there was a rather loud noise from the fans below which did not go off until 10pm and then started again at 6am the following morning. We looked at the room service menu and was appalled to see that a baked potato cost £9!!! We ended up going out to get a fish supper to take back to the room. The TV in the room was a joke. It was very small and we received about 2 channels of poor quality. Surely in this day in age hotels should have at least Freeview. Also it was near impossible to do the basics with the remote control, like turn the volume up or down. On leaving we were asked if we had a pleasant stay and when we said it had not been very good the staff didn't even ask what was wrong. I had originally wanted to book in the the Premier Inn along the road but this was fully booked so I thought it might be nicer to pay £5 more and stay in a nicer hotel. I cannot stress how gutted I was and really wish I had not paid £74 to stay in a room that was of lower quality that a Premier Inn. At least you know what you are getting when you stay in such a place.

The location of this hotel was very good. It was about a 5 minute walk from the train station.

The room was very small with very few ammenities.

The TV had a broken channel changer button and the remote didn't work. After getting new batteries in the remote, it still didn't work.

Our 6:30am wake up call came at 5:30 and nobody was on duty at the front desk to request them to call back in an hour. So we had to get up earlier than we wanted.

A full breakfast was included. However, the food was not very good and the service was worse. We were 2 women traveling by ourselves. We were the 1st people to be seated and the last ones to get our breakfasts. All the other people in the room were men. It was one of the strangest meals I have ever had, the only sounds were of the dishes and the silverware, nobody talked.

I would only recommend this hotel for an overnight stay.

Evening food and bar service excellent. Breakfasts poor (tea/breakfast not hot, needed to check cutlery etc as sometimes not clean) some mould on walls showing through, and no curtains in the bathroom
