In fact, this choise was better than I expected: good hotel with very kind and courtous staff, very neraby to the Douro river and its excellent ambience of bars, restaurants and riverside, to the bridge to go to the other river banks with the Portwine caves, only 7-8 min to the congress centre, all that by walking, and without climbing too much.

The hotel were good enough to provide a triple room for our convenience which was more value for money. Room was large, with large well equipped bathroom and had air conditioning which was a bonus as it was quite warm during our stay. Breakfast was your basic buffet, with croissants / fresh fruit etc - exactly what we were expecting. Hotel was difficult to find, and locals do not speak a lot of english - so do take directions with you - but it is literally a 5 minute walk downhill from the nearest metro (Which is a life saver)! Staff were helpful and polite and bar area was nice to relax in before bed! Hotel is based in the old town, however is easily accessible for this and the newer end of town. Sightseeing bus tour is a must, as Porto is much bigger than it originally looks, and many things can be easily missed, especially with a lack of good tourist information facilities.

The couple of problems we did have were dealt with quickly and fixed up without trouble. Would return there again if I am in the area.
