Hotels in Merrion Square generally comprised of mid-range and luxury hotels and there are not many budget hotels here. This may be due to the location since the square is a major tourist attraction site. Most luxury Merrion square hotels offer posh and comfortable rooms with excellent amenities such as lavish restaurants and outstanding customer service. Since most of these hotels occupy classical buildings, you can expect your room to have neoclassical design with matching furnishings. The strategic location of the hotels, some just in front of the square, makes it easy for you to visit tourist attractions around here.
Merrion Square - Merrion Square is one of the largest green squares in Dublin, filled with green grassy areas and three Georgian style houses. Main attraction here is the statue and engravings of famous writer and dramatist, Oscar Wilde. If you feel like escaping the busy streets of Dublin city centre, then this is the place to be. A brisk walk around the square while reading and amusing ourselves with Wilde's quotes will sure to uplift your worn spirit after a long day outside. The square is also well known with locals having evening walks with family and relaxing while reading books.
Not far from here is the National Botanic Gardens. If you favour an insight of local and the continent's flora and green trees, head on here. Entrance is free but they close early on winter so check the time beforehand. A few minutes bus ride from here is the National Gallery of Ireland where most of the nation's collections of Irish and European art are kept for display. Closed on major public Ireland holidays like Good Friday and Christmas, the gallery has vast collections of artefacts and paintings, from medieval up to modern artworks, and a good place to learn the history of Ireland.
Of course, a better way to learn Ireland's history would definitely be a visit to the National Museum of Ireland. It's a must-visit site for anyone interested in Irish history as this museum is the national repository for all archaeological objects found in Ireland. You'll be amazed with the collection of the prehistoric Ireland and treasury exhibits, which are particularly exceptional. Entrance is free but you may want to find out the opening and closing time before you go.
