This hotel must have been wonderful in it's day. We were very disappointed in it's location being so far from Cascais. It turned out to be quite expensive to take taxi's in and out of Cascais once or twice a day. We didn't realise there were no brewing facilities which we greatly missed. Also no hairdryer. Being so close to the beach was lovely and if you have your own transport a great place for a base. Sadly we didn't have transport and the bus service is hit and miss. The photo's on the website I do feel were grander than reality.

Quirky architecture and decor in a fabulous location. Maybe resting on it's laurels bit - there is a faded picture of a young Diana Rigg in the entrance hall. Laid back atmosphere throughout. Good restaurant overlooking the Praia Do Guincho. Room a bit basic, but refitted bathroom good. Praia Do Guincho is a wide expanse of sand facing west which provides excellent surfing, windsurfing and kite surfing, but not for beginners. Cascais (as is Lisbon) is easy to reach by public transport or car. Would definitely recommend to friends and intend to return - we stayed an extra night on this visit.

Our plan was to find a hotel located close to Guincho beach which is known for its surfing. The Estalagem Muchaxo was perfect in that it was situated directly beside the beach giving us easy access to the sea and the surf schools. However, the nearest town or bank was approximately six kilometres away meaning that without a car, you were quite restricted and taxis were the main form of transport. Despite being slightly isolated, the hotel itself had the facilities to keep us occupied. For example it had a beautiful beach, a nice swimming pool, restaraunt and bar. While staying there we found the staff to be extremely friendly and helpful, and after a week there we found that we knew them quite well. Also it was pleasant to see that this was returned, in that the staff all made the effort to get to know us as well as we knew them. The rooms were basic but comfortable and well kept with a great view of the beach and mountains.
