No vehicle needed. Key sites within walking distance. Male staff were helpful but the female staff were not. There was no TV remote and they could not provide one, instead she suggested switching rooms to the "old" part of the hotel that was up several floors without a working elevator (rather than replace the TV). The floor in the bathroom had a sink hole in the main part of the floor, was concerned it might give way at any time. However, for price and location, could overlook the inconveniences. The room was clean. There was a pub attached, Biddy Mulligans, which was great and very convenient. The food there was good.

Because of the size of the bed there wasn't left too much space in the room. I found the price a bit expensive but the reason for the hihg price could be that I only booked the room 1 month beforehand.

The rooms where small but very clean with a superb shower in the bathroom. There is also a row of pubs and right next door to the place. All in all I would definately use this hotel again.

Not the best in the world Reviewer: Robert Gray Date of review: 14 August 2007 Recommends this hotel: NO Recommended for: Leisure Room Hotel Facilities 1 Bed 3 Ambience 1 Cleanliness 3 Service 3 Room Size 2 Location 5 Amenities 2 Value for Money 2 Staff were very courtious and the hotel was perfectly located for the Royal mile and the castle. 10 out of ten The hotel was next to and above a bar which at this this time of the year can be a bit noisey to the early hours so if you you want sleep it would be a good idea to ask for a room at the back of the hotel, 4 out of 10. Dont expect to get to much sleep if your room overlooks the Grassmarket. The hotel is in need of modernisation but if its a bed you need this hotel is better than some ive been in. bad smell in stairwell so we used the lift. All in all 4 OUT OF 10

GBP60 for that seemed a little steep. The room was cold but I was ably assisted by the porter who brought me another duvet
