We used the swimming pool at about 8:00 at night on our Saturday night stay and had it to ourselves - lovely pool setting and warm water.

I don't understand how a 4 star hotel would give a room that is not properly functioning to a guest without warning. Especially in such close proximity to a train station where there is noise throughout the night with the window open. I have friends who work in hotel service in other 4 star hotels, and I know that for them such an issue is unimaginable. We were given a room without air conditioning and the room was too hot. The only way to stay cool was with the window open, but with the window open there was so much noise from the train station that we could not sleep. When we complained about the air conditioner to the receptionist, he said that he knew already that the air conditioner in our room was broken and we could move if we wanted to. Repeat: he said he knew there was a problem, and they were not able to repair it in the last week. Why were we given a room with a broken air conditioner? We were busy all day in Bonn and only wanted to sleep in the hotel, but this was not possible with the amount of noise that we had in the room! And then, to compensate us for two nights of poor sleep, the manager offered us a "couple of free drinks from the mini-bar." This seems ridiculous to me- how can two over-priced plastic bottles of whiskey for free make up for lost sleep during once-in-a-lifetime vacations? This is almost more insulting than not offering anything.
