Preceding my visit to this hotel, I spent 8 nights in a Paris 3-star hotel with no amenities ("zee wee-fee does not work, m'seur!"), in a room so small you'd have to step outside to change your mind. The Holiday Inn in Birmingham was heaven in comparison--for about the same money. If I had a criticism, it would be that the menu in the restaurant could be a little more-inspired, and Strongbow should flow from a tap in the bar. Otherwise, this is a fine place, convenient to the train station, secure, and appropriate if you need to get work done between visits to customers, as I was doing. Car-hire agencies are but five minutes away, too--as well as a huge shopping centre.
Good value for a City centre hotel on a Sunday night

the reciption of the hotel was friendly and the staff were helpful. the location of the hotel is central which is very convience. the room was small, the radiater was hidden behind the curtain, when i opened the curtain to see the radiater the wall was not looking nice. the flush of the toilet was not working. i was happy with the room services.
Don't follow the hotel's directions!
We went the "wrong" way out of New Street stattion, and it is much easier than the back way the hotel tells you to go. Go out the front of the station facing the shopping center, turn right, and follow the main road (Queen's St?)about two blocks . Turn left on Hill, and the hotel is right there. No steps! We arrived early, before check in time, and our room was ready for us. It was a large double with a wardrobe, in-room safe, and flat panel TV. There was construction going on in the hotel while we were there, but as we weren't there during the day, it didn't bother us. We got a sleek, newly renovated room. The en suite had a lovely deep soaking tub (!), the first we had seen in Britain, with cool green mood lighting under the sink. There was a neat green feature I'd never seen before -- you had to put your room key-card in a slot by the main light switch in order to get the lights to work. It would have been nice to have a card or something explaining this -- I had to call down to the desk at midnight to find out why our lights weren't working -- but they were courteous and patient with me. It's a great way to make sure guests don't leave the lights on when they leave. We didn't use the restaurant and other hotel amenities, so I can't comment on them, but you can't beat the location -- just a few minutes walk from New Street and Moor Street stations, and close to tons of shopping. All in all, a lovely room at a reasonable price.
DEFINATELY RECOMMENDED

Holiday Inn Bermingham
Recenty I had cause to spend a night in The holiday Inn in Birmingham and I was pleasently surprised. On arrival I checked in early which caused no problems by a very corteous and efficient recptionist. The room itself was very comfortable and clean. I dined in the hotel restaurant that night and the food was good. The bed were very comfortable and. The breakfast menu was very extensive and tasty. The location of the hotel is very good being very close to the train station and local shopping and restaurants.
Excellent base
I used the Holiday Inn in Birmingham city centre recently as a base for visiting Crufts. As the NEC has a direct train link to Birmingham New Street station, and the Holiday Inn is only 2-3 minutes walk from New Street station, it was ideally located. It is equally close to a large shopping centre, numerous restaurants and bars. The staff were very obliging and friendly, and the breakfast was excellent. Tea and coffee making facilities in the room were very welcome, although there was no fridge/mini bar.
good value for money
Having booked early in summer for a stay in January, I was a bit worried what I may find when visiting. To my surprise what I found is more than i bargained for. The location is fantastic. The rooms are clean and spacious
Although only forone night the hotel was excellant value.Food and service were of a high standard and the staff very pleasant and helpful. You did not notice the refurbishment that was ongoing except with a small delay while the room locls were replaced. This may have been our fault as we did arrive early!!!!!
