Staff was able to speak to me in English which was very helpful as my Flemish is non-existent and my French is rudimentary. They were very helpful to assist personally when there was an initial problem with my keycard. The hotel, while not near the city, is very convenient to a tram to the station and to the old centre. The transport was cheap, comfortable and reliable. It was even easy to take my luggage in the tram when I signed out. The breakfast is fairly expensive (21 euros). However, it is generous, varied and of good quality. You can even squeeze your own fresh juice. The restaurant food and service are good. The food is plentiful and of good quality. The house red is drinkable. I would stay there again.

We had difficulty in actually getting to the Holiday Inn but when we did get there the receptionist was very helpful and other members of staff were also very helpful. We thought the tea and coffee in the room were skimped on. The room was clean and the bed was so comfortable. We didn't eat there. The tram into Ghent was close by and very convenient.

Ideal for visiting Ghent
The Holiday Inn Ghent Expo is a comfortable and pleasant place to stay and is near to the E40. The access is a little tricky because the local council have restricted the size of the signs for the hotel for some unknown reason. However if you follow the signs for Ghent Expo you will get there and their carpark is directly off the A road travelling north from the E40 Sint-Denis junction. Car park is card-controlled on entry but the hotel give you a voucher card when you leave so that you do not have to pay. The rooms and breakfast facilities are very good. You can leave your car in the carpark for your entire stay and travel into Ghent for tourism or business from the tram stop directly outside the Expo building next door. It takes about 15 minutes and the trams run about every 10 - 15 minutes from early morning to late at night. You do not have to drive in Ghent!! The city is charming, architecturally stunning and there is local food and 'tourist' food. River buses, historical tours, art galleries and famous works of art in cathedrals and churches - and cafe society. Not to be missed, and a good hotel base to stay in. We shall be back - this was our second visit. And they were kind enough to post to me my phone charger which I foolishly left behind, with a pleasant helpful manner!
