No frills, but a quiet room and comfortable bed, which suited me fine.

The reseption was not able to bring us a second glass within the two days we stayed.

The price was excellent at 45 Euros/nite. I arrived Oct 13th and the room had to be cooled off a bit by opening the windows but because it's in the old quarter and the streets very narrow, all outside sounds enter. Someone walking or coughing could be heard even from the 3rd floor so one must sleep with closed windows. Consequently the only fault may have been the week air conditioner. I didn't complain because room had time to cool off day time but maybe the hotel airconditioners were adjusted to provide minimum cooling for October. The street was semi-residential so hardly any traffic, more pedestrians than vehicules. Metro La Latina was 2 minutes away (1 1/2 blocks) and Plaza Mayor less than a 10 minute walk. I only reserved the first 3 days but was satisfied enough to stay a full week. Night shift staff were slightly useless but day staff spoke English and though not dynamic were perfectly adequate for my basic needs.

The hotel is within walking distance of Puerta del Sol, and the metro is less than 200 metres from the door. The rooms and corridors were clean , the staff helpful , and there was little noise. However it was late September and we were there from Sunday to Wednesday nights ; I think noise would travel if there were any late night revellers. The only downside was the odour in the bathroom coming from the water pipes. There is no proper ventilation, and the pipes are undoubtedly old. After a couple of days you sort of become used to it. Overall for the price, I would recommend it if you like me are not expecting miracles , just a bed to sleep in .

Would definately take the family back there if we visit again.

Breakfast includes one toast & coffee only. The restaurant host offers extra cakes/bread to other western visitors, but when we (Asian) asked for extra cake, he asked us to pay for it. This is unreasonable and we are very disappointed with his attitude! Nevertheless, I will stay there again when I visit Madrid. hope everything will be improved.
