Staff were helpful but not exactly friendly. Location was within 1/2 hour walking distance of old town. The hotel is in a very cute Georgian building. No facilities other than the breakfast room. The room was lovely. High ceilings. Gorgeous blue. Good size. Comfy bed.

Breakfast times from 8 to 8:45 AM, was too late for me, since I had to go to meetings earlier than that (had to skip breakfast twice) and when one is on holiday it may be too early (a very narrow window indeed). the bed was a too short; en-suite facilities were very improvised and not clean; for the rest, the room was good; phone was handy

The guesthouse we stayed in was located very conveniently for our stay in Edinburgh - being right next to busy bus routes, while also having some cafes/restaurants/pubs locally if we didn't want to go into the city centre. The overall appearance of the guesthouse was a little drab, maybe needed a little sprucing up - and the breakfast provided was sufficient albeit a little bland. However, in terms of value for money and location, it was hard to fault Mardale Guest house - and the hosts were more than happy to recommend places to eat and how to get to city centre, etc. The room itself was more than adequate, the bed being comfortable, TV & tea/coffee making facilities provided, and bathroom clean with good shower.
