We lost our apppetite for dinner and just went down to the terrace and had a few drinks, we then felt like a snack - we ordered a pizza - which was an awful supermarket reheat and a sandwitch which was ok. We skipped breakfast as we couldn't wait to leave. We were SO disappointed when we made our way to our room. Firstly we came out of the lift and the whole floor was in darkness, we had to find our way to the room in complete darkness. When we found our room and went in we were immediately totally disappointed. It was a tiny room, the bed was not properly made up, it wasn't a nice looking bed and you could see bashes on the wall behind where the headboard was attached, but it was only dressed in white sheets- it looked like a hospital bed. The room was tiny and the furniture looked like it had been donated by a charity shop. The decor was old and shabby. We immediately phoned reception and complained, they arranged to move us to another room, the porter came and collected us and brought us to what was supposed to be a junior suite - it was worse that the first room - it was a twin room, one bed had a bedspread, the other one was aside on a chair, again the furniture was mix not match disgrace, again we got back onto reception. We moved rooms again. The 3rd room was extremely noisey as it over looked the busy ramblas, but seemed cleaner and the bed was properly.We were looking forward to old style luxury, I was in tears, it was the last night of our holiday having spent the previous week in the Sheraton La Caleta in Costa Adeje and we were disguisted. We would have changed hotels only that it was 9pm and we didn't know where else to go. It ruined the night for us, we were planning to go downstairs and have a lovely meal but we lost our appetite. We didn't even stay for breakfast the next morning - we couldn't wait to check out!

NO ONE TO TAKE OUR BAGS OR WANTING TO HELP UPON ARRIVAL; TOO STIFF AND COLD ATMOSPHERE; STAFF UNFRIENDLY WITH NO SMILING, WELCOMING FACES; RECEPTION SEEMED MORE CONCERNED TO PROCESS US RATHER THAN A WELCOMING COMMENT; STAFF SEEMED MORE CONCERNED WITH THEIR OWN IMPORTANCE; NO DOUBT A "CELEBRITY" WOULD HAVE RECEIVED THE OPPOSITE OF THE SERVICE AND CONCERN THAT WE WERE SHOWED - FAR FROM GOOD ENOUGH! AN ALTERNATIVE SMALLER, MORE FRIENDLY AND WELCOMING HOTEL (AND LESS COST) WILL BE OUR CHOICE NEXT TIME WE COME TO SANTA CRUZ
