Booking a hotel on-line, sight unseen, can be a gamble: I was very pleased with this hotel. Its location, just a couple of minutes from the SBB railway station, an extensive tram network and a frequent bus service direct to the airport, were ideal for me, a visitor without a car and keen on public transport. Even walking into town only takes twenty minutes. Yet despite this busy, central location, my room was wonderfully quiet and very comfortable; I slept well. The bathroom facilities were fine; I wish I'd realised sooner how to set the heater timer as I'd never seen one of these before! Extending the shower screen would be welcome as, despite my best efforts, I found it impossible to keep the floor dry - sorry! I hadn't realised that breakfast was not included in the room rate when I booked as this was unclear on the website. In my case, however, this proved to be an advantage as I was away earlier each day than originally planned! In summary, I would definitely stay at the Hotel Metropol again, should I visit Basel in future.

I would recommend the hotel to anyone. Your staff were very friendly, helpful and cheerful.
