Villa San Michele Florence Hotel Frequently Asked Questions

Q1. What are the differences between the room types?(If there are more than one room type)
There are 45 Guest rooms comprising 21 doubles/twins, 20 junior suites and 4 suites. The hotel offers 21 double rooms, 20 Junior Suites and 4 Suites. Standard and Superior Rooms Tastefully appointed with walnut or cherry custom-made furniture, each of these rooms features king, queen or twin beds, handmade parchment lampshades, carpets in sober colours, curtains of the finest cotton and upholstery in elegant symbiosis, with the colour schemes dominated by warm pastels. A fully stocked minibar is discreetly enclosed in a walnut cabinet while most have in-room safe. Embroidered slippers and the finest linen sheets are a detail. The luxurious bathrooms are equipped with heated towel racks, detachable hairdryer, weighing scales and most offer double vanity and separate shower. The toothbrush holder is handmade in cotto in the pleasantly original shape of a bell and the emergency candle-holder is also made in heavy polished cotto. Some of these rooms look onto the intimate cloister, which accommodates the bar, discreetly visible through the glass roof, and allows its use in any season, or at the soaring cypress trees intertwined with creeping roses and wisteria. Rate Classification: Double/Twin Standard or Superior Rooms Furniture detail image: Scarlet painted, lyre-shaped headboard. De Luxe Rooms Each room features king, queen or twin beds, dressed in the softest linen. Headboards are often either hand-painted wood or intricately wrought iron. The warmth of the cotto tiles blends harmoniously with the pastel colours of the curtains, lampshades and carpets.Armoires are often placed in the spacious, well-equipped bathrooms and are open to view, always holding an in-room safe along with slippers, umbrella and efficiently carved coat hangers of solid walnut. The 16-channel TV set is hidden from view in a wood and mirror box at the foot of the bed, with remote control to action its lift. Bathrooms feature Carrara marble double vanities, separate toilets, walk-in showers, heated towel racks and magnifying mirror for shaving and make-up. All rooms have touch control central air conditioning and heating, video and fax/modem facilities with multinational plugs (USA, UK, Germany etc) easily accessible by the writing desk. The Chapel This most recent renovation of Villa San Michele truly was a chapel, built on the border of the wooded park which surrounds the hotel and once used only for retreat by the monks. After many years of total neglect, it has been brought back to its original aspects and now contains the hotel's most private and secluded room, a true honeymooners' hideaway. From the terrace in the front, a space twice as big as the room itself measuring 50 square metres (525 square feet), the view is truly breathtaking and it expands forever; and from the bed itself the view is no less. The terrace extends with a paved path toward another still more intimate belvedere called 'The Observatory', which leaves one speechless at the beauty of the view. This is the only room in the hotel which features a ceiling of solid wood beams and handmade cotto tiles, which are a charming and well-balanced contrast to the vaulted ceiling of the bathroom, frescoed with sky, clouds and the Villa's Lion. The bathroom features a comfortable bathtub, walk-in shower, double Carrara vanities, hairdryer, weighing scales and the softest towels in the world. Junior Suites with Private Terrace Overlooking the Italian Garden outside the main house, the Junior Suites are the first extension of Villa San Michele and each terrace commands an astonishing view of the Arno Valley, Florence and the main house itself. Access is provided through a wall-to-wall glass door which, when completely open, allows a total area of 80 square metres (856 square feet) and expands the suites' spaciousness towards the intimate terrace equipped with sunshade, and wrought-iron table and armchairs from which to enjoy either breakfast or sunset drinks. Rich tapestry curtains, complete with blackout and set off by rope-tasselled tie-backs, provide the perfect backdrop for the spacious breakfast table. The exceptional furnishings comprise a relaxing sitting area, writing desk, fully stocked minibar set in a walnut buffet, four-poster canopied, king-size bed, hidden TV set in a wood and mirror box at the foot of the bed, and comfortable down-filled chairs and armchairs. The brightness of the pastel colours is further enhanced by the light salmon colour of the Florentine stucco. Bathrooms are incredibly spacious at 22 square metres (230 square feet), which includes walk-in shower and separate toilet, and feature a bathtub, his and hers double marble vanities conveniently set opposite the open to view his and hers armoire, to secure space and comfort for both. The shower space is itself unusually large, measuring 2.5 square metres (26 square feet), of a sober, floor-to-ceiling pink Carrara marble. Junior Suites with Private Garden Their character, exceptional furnishings, spaciousness and elegant charm, combined with their secluded gardens, distinguish these Junior Suites. Located underneath the Italian Garden, they are level with the massive supporting wall of the main building and each private garden commands a bird's eye view of Florence and the Chianti Hills. Tall and elegantly trimmed laurel hedges secure the total privacy of each garden and the Junior Suite behind it. The lawn garden and paved terrace allow 40 square metres (420 square feet) of peaceful retreat, comfortably equipped with lavishly cushioned wrought-iron armchairs and elbow rest chairs flanking the slate-covered table. Walnut wood and wrought iron are mingled in their dècor and furnishings, blending solidity and elegant craftsmanship. The Junior Suites proper comprise a sitting area with sofa and armchairs, a comfortable breakfast table and chairs, writing desk with connection to fax/modem facilities, open bar nicely hidden in a faux Renaissance buffet, and hidden TV set, while charming reproductions of Florence as it was from the Renaissance until today adorn the Florentine stuccoed walls.Bathrooms are truly spacious and rich in royal yellow Carrara marble, which panels most of the walls and blends harmoniously with the cotto floor and the polished walnut wood of the open, his and hers armoire, set opposite the double vanities. All bathrooms feature very elegantly packaged toiletries in original green and brown patterns. Limonaia Suites The Limonaia, or 'orangerie', which dates back to 1752 as carved in Roman numerals - MDCCLII - on its wall, was once used for protecting the potted lemon plants in winter and now it houses these best suites. Situated one above the other in the same structure detached from the main house, with incredible views of the Italian Garden, Florence and the Arno Valley, and the whole Villa itself, these suites are the ultimate in comfort, elegance and up-to-date efficiency. The ground floor suite has access to a very secluded garden measuring 100 square metres (1050 square feet), set in an ancient quarry, and the upper suite provides a charming, private terrace surrounded by gorgeous camellias, ideal for breakfast and sunset drinks. This suite also offers a guest bathroom with access from the elegantly appointed separate sitting room. Both feature separate sitting rooms with kitchenette facilities in an adjoining space, and the writing desks have dedicated facsimile machine and modem lines easily accessible by the desktop and affording multinational plugs. The enormous arched windows of both sitting rooms and bedrooms are a true panoramic glory and light streams through, inundating the pastel colours which dominate the décor and the furniture of polished walnut, carved in faux Renaissance style and further enriched by some 16th, 17th, and 18th-century original buffets and cabinets. Four-poster canopied beds, capacious cupboards, and down-filled armchairs and sofas all contribute to maximum comfort. The bathroom, a large comfortable space of 16 square metres (168 square feet), features a large bathtub set between the his and hers double vanities, while the toilet and walk-in shower are set in a separate adjoining space, affording the most total privacy. Michelangelo Suite By far the Villa's largest and most romantic accommodation, measuring 65 square metres (682 square feet), it stretches behind the whole length of the façade with two windows on the side of one wall and an even larger one in the front dominating Florence, the Arno Valley and the Chianti Hills. Inundated by daylight from sunrise to sunset, it was the monastery library in days gone by. With no walls in-between, the first impressive sight upon entering is the huge, canopied, king-size bed which dominates this very large suite. The suite itself is furnished with 16th, 17th and 18th-century works of art, from a magnificent fruit wood armadio to a carved walnut centre table and side table, prayer stand, carved walnut armchairs, day bed, three-seater sofa, coffret, elbow rest chairs and carpets of the most precious manufacture from Persia. The sitting area occupies a whole one-third of the total space and is conveniently set right under the corner-to-corner window above Florence.A large fireplace dominates one of the walls, its stone mantelpiece a glory of carved craftsmanship. The bathroom contains the largest, round, pool-like bathtub, a delight to see and enjoy, and features separate shower and the finest and softest linen and towels. Bathrobes are soft and well-sized for sheer comfort.Napoleon himself occupied the Michelangelo Suite where he established his headquarters in Florence. The Donatello Suite Once upon a time the Prior's quarters, it occupies the whole corner of the monastery, with two windows overlooking Florence and the Arno Valley and two windows enjoying the peaceful sight of the Italian Garden and the wooded park - a pole position today as it was in days gone by. A spacious, sunlit, separate sitting room featuring a corner fireplace of exquisite craftsmanship leads into a large, well-appointed bedroom with king size bed, breakfast table and elbow rest chairs. A 16th-century buffet with drawers is available for clients' clothes. The bathroom's access is from the sitting room and it features a large armoire open to sight, safe, umbrella, solid walnut hangers, separate shower and toilet, double marble vanities and extensive well-lit mirror. The complimentary toiletries are of the finest quality and the packaging elegant and discreet in green and brown delicate patterns. In fine contrast with the dominating pastel and cream tonalities, the cherry red of the vast sofa and armchairs gives a bright and cheerful note to the sitting room.
