Excellent basic room, comfortable, quiet, friendly and unique atmosphere, and only a few minutes from the old centre of Ghent. If all you want is a room to sleep in then this is for you. There was no problem with the shared failities, all were of high quality and even though the hotel was fully booked there was never a queue for them. Excellent breakfasts as well.

Afer researching hotels in Ghent on the internet we chose this hotel this because as it was stated on the website it had been full of hidden cloisters for centuries, now revealing its secrets. The atmosphere is charming. This implied that the abbey was now restored and looking at the pictures of the restaurant, bedrooms etc indicated the ambience would be near perfect. How wrong we were. Situated down a unspectacular side street we eventually found the hotel. Then we spent 10 minutes trying to find an open door to get in. The sign to the reception was not overtly displayed. We were shown to a bedroom in an annexe which to say the least was very disappointing as verified by the lady showing to us. We were then offered another one in a different building and this was better although the carpet had not been hoovered for some time. We would like to add they have hardly any double beds in their rooms. We were then told that there was not bar or restaurant open. However, we were given a plan of the town and told where good restaurants could be found. The next morning we came out of our room to be confronted by a gentleman sanding near the lift without any protection for himself or the surrounding area consequently the dust was flying everywhere. We could go on but we were there to enjoy ourselves!! To summarise, this is a POTENTIALLY beautiful hotel that is way off as yet fulfilling its potential. There is no indication on the blurb of the hotel that it is still under huge rennovation and with the amount of work still to be done this will be continuing for some time. The finishing off is shabby appearing as if they are trying to do it quickly without finishing anything off properly. The receptionist at our time of departure was agreeinng to our many comments. On a positive note the breakfast was fine and the lady very pleaseant and helpful.

Single guest rooms are "quirky" small and interesting. Comfortable though. Hotel has great location

A very nice hotel with great atmosphere. I enjoyed the breakfast very much. I would like to have stayed longer. Even though I had a shared toilet and shower, I was very happy with, and comfortable in, my room. I liked the leaded glass casement windows and carved wooden door.
