Overview
Lisbon’s most ancient palace, the Palacio Belmonte Hotel Lisbon, is set in the historical city centre on the hill of the São Jorge Castle. The palace was built in 1449, incorporating three towers, on a forty metre boulder over the most ancient moor and roman walls in the city. In 1640, the construction of a terrace and five classical façades served to augment the palace. The rooms were decorated with an individual and modern style. Each room was named after a culturally renowned Portuguese personality and antique furniture was brought into harmony with contemporary works of art. The 11 suites at the Palacio Belmonte Hotel Lisbon have received substantial international press exposure, the May 2000 issue of the British edition of the Conde Nast Traveller named the Palácio Belmonte in the guide as one of the "21 coolest hotels in the world". The American edition of the same magazine included the Belmonte in the "Hot List 2000" representing the year’s 36 top new hotels. The selective Gallivanter’s Guide rated the Belmonte in their May 2000 issue. Belmonte was also featured on the front cover of the December 2000 Conde Nast Traveller and the Luis Vuitton French/English edition 2000.
