Hotels in Porto - One of the largest city in Iberian Peninsula and the
second largest in Portugal, Porto is an interesting city with built right from
the ground up following the hilly terrain of the city, meaning walking around
will prove to be laborious due to the uncountable stairs and hilly pavements
that you'll need to endure in order to scout around. Nevertheless, Porto's
unique feature is that most of the medieval and historic buildings and
structures are hidden beneath the modern buildings which can easily be left
unnoticed unless you take a closer look. The same goes for many of the cheap
hotels in Porto in Portugal that occupies commercial buildings as the entrance
could be left unnoticed unless you take a closer look.
Most of the
cheap Porto hotels can be found in
Boavista
district, an island located Barlavento archipelago. Previously Boavista's main
activity was farming but now, after discovery of few historical village ruins
and other historical sites, tourist friendly beaches and lots of sand dunes,
Boavista has transformed into one of the preferred tourist location in Porto.
This attracted plenty of low cost hotel in Porto to establish themselves here,
providing decent and clean rooms, basic toiletries and above average amenities
especially good restaurants, cafés, swimming pools and more as Boavista's town
amenities are quite limited. Attractions and beaches are quite near, you can
just walk to these locations.
Some of the major attraction of Porto such as the Ponte da Boutaca and
Estátua Equestre de Sao Nuno de Santa Maria is located in
Batalha /
Camara Municipal, a premier district of Porto. Visiting the attractions and
exploring the district is much easier if you're staying in one of the many
Porto luxury
hotels here as the hotels are located very near to the attractions. Te best
method to travel in Batalha is by foot as some of the attractions are quite
close to each other, moreover Batalha terrain is filled with steps and hills,
suitable for walking around. While here, make sure to visit one of the
magnificent Gothic landmarks of Porto, the Batalha Monastery, located just a
brisk walk away from most of the hotels here.
Shopping is a must in Porto as most of the things are quite cheap compared to
other European destinations. Start off with a relaxing stroll around Mercado do
Bolhão, a food market and handicrafts stores where you can buy some trinkets or
have your breakfast as how locals do. The suburbs have plenty of shopping
centres such as Norte Shopping, Arrábida Shopping, Parque Nascente, Gaia
Shopping and Mar Shopping, the biggest IKEA store in entire Europe. These alone
would have you glued in their premises for the whole day. More serene and quite
shopping malls that draws upmarket crowd are Shopping Cidade do Porto, and Via
Catarina. As always when it comes to shopping, weekdays are the best times and
avoid shopping on your last day of visit as you won't have enough time for
scouting and bargaining for best rates.
Porto - Porto, also known as Oporto locally is the second largest city
in Portugal and one of the major urban areas in the Iberian Peninsula. Porto
have a rather small population, about two hundred and forth thousand residents
only compared to other major cities in Europe. Urban area of Porto however, has
a population of 1.3 million people, making it the second-largest urban area in
Portugal. The Porto Metropolitan Area is recognized as a global city by the
Globalization and World Cities (GaWC) Study Group, making Proto one of only four
cities in Iberian Peninsula to acquire global city status.
In brief, Porto is an industrial and commercial city that's busy round the
clock. Built along the hills overlooking the Douro river estuary, Porto's old
city is one if the places you must visit as it has been preserved carefully,
reflecting Porto's medieval origin. The old city was awarded World Heritage
status by UNESCO in 1996. Porto enjoys a semi Mediterranean weather, that means
you'll enjoy mild sun almost all year long, except that winds can get pretty
rough and cold since Porto is located at the edge of Atlantic Sea. Despite all
that, be sure to carry an umbrella when touring the city as flash downpour are
common while sun can get pretty hot during summer season. If the weather is too
hot for exploring then head on to one of Porto's many beaches especially
Boavista's tourist laden beaches. There's always something to do or see in Porto
that you're won't get bored at all.
