Overview
The Hotel San Michele Cortona is a building that can claim to represent a condensed history of Cortona since it formed part of the fortifications as long ago as the XI century. In the XII century it was the town house of the noble Marquis of Monte St. Maria family. Later, in 1206, it seems to have become a public building, the Palace of Justice for the town with the Podestas judge. It may also have been the home of the Priors of the St. Vincent sector of town.
