This was far and away the most expensive hotel in our family's 8-day tour of Brandenburg/Saxony/Saxony- Anhalt and I'm not sure that it was worth the extra, although I realise that for a couple staying in Kavalierhaus there was a good deal and I realise too that Dresden being touristy tends to be dearer but all the other hotels were under 100€ for 3 incl. breakfast, whereas we were charged 117€ per night plus 18 € per person for breakfast (optional). We had breakfast the first morning and enjoyed delicious buffet and nice views from the terrace but had already decided from the outset to "pass" on breakfast the day of our departure.
The Kavalierhaus is only a 3-star facility (which I don't think is explained pre-booking) whereas the main palace building is 5-star. We were charged around 40€ a night extra for the sofa-bed to be used (note they didn't have to bring an extra bed in even). The rooms are quite small but well-appointed (every centimetre made use of).
We had considered eating in the restaurant but prices were high for not particularly appealing selection so in the end both nights we walked along to the Prinzenkeller at Schloss Albrechtsberg (now a hotel/catering school).
Finally, I know minibars are always expensive but charging over 5€ for a small bottle of very ordinary wine that I have paid 99cents for at Schlecker really does take some beating!
