That was a good reason, and one that assisted us with our visit to the new Opera house. As well, the main pedestrian street is just around the corner, and transportation points are close by. One of the strengths of the Astoria is the kindness, courtesy and helpfulness of the staff on the front desk. We received all the help one could expect, as well as discussions about society and life in Norway (when they were not busy). The breakfast variety is as good as anywhere we have stayed. We enjoy the fresh fruit, yogert, fish and meat selection and the wonderful breads. All was very good!

Easy walking distance to most locations. Very helpful male receptionist. Good room for the price. Slightly small but adequate bathroom with good shower. Excellent breakfast. Only downside was a noisy sport bar across the street with drinking to about 03.00!

Also, window latch was broken therefore extremely difficult to open and close the window.

Relatively quiet as far as street noise, but rooms are separated by thin walls allowing noise from guests in adjacent rooms to disturb (especially shower noise). Beds are small by U.S. standards (twin size for single room).
